WASHINGTON, D.C.—The much-anticipated second impeachment of former President Donald J. Trump—the sequel to his critically acclaimed first impeachment in January 2020—was met with negative reviews from disappointed viewers all over the country as the Senate voted today to acquit Mr. Trump. “This impeachment sucked compared to the first one,” said Los Angeles resident Javier Ramirez, a self-proclaimed “impeachment junkie” who was hopeful that the sequel would have a different ending than its predecessor. “With the videos of the riots and everything I thought they were setting it up for some real plot twists, you know, but then it turns out the Senate is just going to let him off anyway. Totally unoriginal plot, no character development; this impeachment cannot stand on its own the way the first one did.” Given the impeachment trial’s poor ratings, lawmakers were said to be considering scrapping plans for any future impeachments of presidents.
